International Women’s Day (8th March) is just around the corner. It is a day to recognise women’s achievements, raise awareness of their challenges, and advocate for gender equality.
For Women for Refugee Women, its an opportunity to celebrate our community and network members.
Women like Ada, who told us:
“Becoming part of Women for Refugee Women has been transformational for me. The activities, the support, the community… it has made me who I am today. I didn’t know what to expect before coming here. I found a safe, welcoming and supportive space. I found people who value me, believe in me and encourage me. I found like-minded people, friends, family, sisters.
There’s so much I have been through, but being around people who support me allows me to think more positively. My mental and physical wellbeing has improved so much. My potential has been unlocked. I have a voice, and I am using it for social change! I know that I have purpose, and I have hope.
Being part of this community has changed everything. I feel motivated to rebuild my life. I belong. My sisters belong. We belong here.”
Too often refugee and asylum-seeking women are treated like they are lesser.
Many of the women we support have told us they feel unwelcome and like they don’t belong. Nobody should feel this way.
Your support and solidarity will show refugee women that they belong and that they matter, and enable us to make a difference to more women like Ada.
Together, we can build community and show compassion and care.
