Celebrating our sisterhood
International Women’s Day (8th March) is a day to recognise women’s achievements, raise awareness of their challenges, and advocate for gender equality.
For our community at Women for Refugee Women, it’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate ourselves and each other.
In the face of the challenges experienced by the refugee women in our network, it is so important to find moments of laughter, joy and togetherness. And our annual International Women’s Day party had them in abundance!
During our party:
- A member of Rainbow Sisters, our solidarity group for LGBTQ+ women seeking safety, led an origami making station;
- Members of our drama group performed original poetry and prose based on the themes of motherhood, care and love;
- Elahe, a member of our network and talented chef, led a traditional Iranian tea ceremony;
- We feasted on a delicious hot lunch – following our tradition of trying different cuisines for each celebration – this time with traditional dishes from Tajikistan;
- Milly, a member of our network and Dance and Movement volunteer, led a lively and fun dance along;
- Women enjoyed moments of peace and pampering in our beauty parlour, with gorgeous manicures and henna;
- And we danced, sang, and laughed together all afternoon!
Our sisterhood is only possible because of the compassion and solidarity of our wonderful supporters and friends. Without you, none of our work would be possible. Thank you!
