Today, July 1st, is National Financial Freedom Day.
But for thousands of women seeking safety in the UK, financial freedom feels impossible.
Most women are banned from working and forced to survive on meagre asylum support – anywhere between £1.42 and just over £7 per day – to meet their basic needs.
This isn’t freedom: it’s forced destitution.
So our Campaigns Champions took a message to Parliament: it’s time to Lift the Ban to give people seeking safety the right to work.
Refugee women from our Campaigns Champions shared what financial freedom and lifting the ban on work would mean to them:
️“Financial freedom means being able to earn money to provide for my children, not just their needs but their wants too.”
️“If I had financial freedom, it would remove the stress and trauma of not being able to afford my basic needs.”
️“The work ban restricts my life and reduces me to a life of destitution. Not being able to afford my basic needs, like a good meal, sanitary products, or shelter.”
