We’ve launched our ambitious new strategy for 2025 – 2028.

Our strategy for 2025 – 2028 sets out our plan to work alongside women who have sought asylum in the UK to support them as they rebuild their lives on their own terms, and to influence the public and policymakers to bring about the change that is needed to create a compassionate and fair asylum process in the UK.

Our vision

Women who come to the UK in search of safety experience a fair and compassionate asylum system and are supported to feel free, welcome and able to rebuild their lives.

Our mission

To support women who have sought asylum to reclaim their power through opportunities to develop new and existing skills, access information and advice, and build confidence and connections.

To amplify the voices of women who have sought asylum to wide audiences through research, events, creative projects, the arts, social media, print and digital media and other means of communication.

To support women who have sought asylum to influence public perceptions of refugees, and to challenge and change the UK’s asylum system so that it is fair and supportive.

We couldn’t do any of this without the compassion and solidarity of our supporters, partners, and friends. We thank you all for standing with refugee and asylum-seeking women, and look forward to working alongside you over the lifetime of our new strategy.

Andrea Vukovic, Co-Director, says:

“Our strategy will unfold under a new Government whose core mission of tackling violence against women and girls aligns closely with our own. This presents a real opportunity to secure positive reforms to asylum policies which perpetuate the cycle of violence and abuse of women seeking safety.

Women for Refugee Women is uniquely well-placed to seize this opportunity by leveraging our unique position straddling the refugee and women’s sector and bringing a gender-informed approach to influencing. Our renewed focus on research will enable us to shine a light on women’s experiences and ensure our policy work is underpinned by robust evidence and first-hand testimonies. Crucially, women with lived experience of fleeing persecution and seeking asylum will remain at the heart of our campaigning for change.

After years of laying the groundwork for positive reforms, I believe our next strategic period will bring some real changes to asylum policy and legislation. Though our collaboration with our partners and our allies, I have no doubt that Women for Refugee Women will be at the forefront of that change.”

Isabel Young, Co-Director, says:

“I am excited for the release of our new organisational strategy, which has been collectively created with members of WRW’s network, our staff team and Board of Trustees. Building on success and growth under our last strategic term, these next three years present an opportunity to continue to adapt our programmes at the grassroots in response to the evolving and intersecting needs of women seeking safety in the UK.

Our commitment to delivering high impact, holistic programmes which focus on skills development, creative expression and fostering a sense of sisterhood and community remains central to WRW’s mission. Our ‘Power’ pillar aims to support a growing network of refugee and asylum-seeking women to reclaim their power and rebuild their lives on their terms. Ensuring lived experience leadership is central across our organisation and in our Grassroots Programmes is forefront to this strategy and I cannot thank the incredible women who make WRW all that it is enough. I look forward to moving into this new strategic period together, alongside all who support our work for a fairer and more compassionate asylum system.”
