Five ways to make a difference in 2025

2024 was another year of hostility for women seeking safety in the UK; from the Rwanda Plan passing in April to the racist and Islamophobic far-right riots in August.

Despite the change in Government, there’s still a long way to go to overhaul the cruel-by-design asylum system.

But throughout this cruelty, we have come together, time and time again in solidarity, compassion and community.

Click here to read about the life-changing impact of your support in 2024.

In 2025, we will continue to fight for a compassionate asylum system and work with refugee women to rebuild their lives in the UK.

But we need your help to do this!

Here are five ways you can make a difference to refugee women this year:

1. JOIN THE SISTERHOOD

Join over 5,000 women taking part in a 5k or 10k running challenge on International Women’s Day (Saturday 8th March) this year.

Or take part in another challenge that suits you, from the Paris Marathon to the Hackney Half.

Have something else in mind? Get in touch, we’d love to hear from you!

2. GIVE A MONTHLY GIFT

Sign up to support refugee women on a monthly basis.

  • £5 per month could provide unlimited hot drinks for one woman during one of our activities;
  • £10 per month could cover transport costs for one woman to attend one of our activities;
  • £20 per month could provide art supplies for one of our creative activities, such as our Radical Knitting group.

3. VISIT AN EXHIBITION THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

We’re really looking forward to Papillon Project’s powerful new exhibition: Pocket Full of Plenty, at Netil House in London. The exhibition is supporting our work and runs Thursday – Sunday from 10-30th January.

Find out more here. We hope to see you there!

4. WRITE TO YOUR MP TO END DETENTION!

Women seeking safety in the UK can be locked up for weeks and months on end, with no idea of when they will be released. Locking up women who have already survived so much inflicts immense harm and retraumatises them.

We believe this can be changed.

Join us and write to your MP asking them to sign our letter to the Home Secretary.

Use our quick and easy tool and make a real difference!

5. VOLUNTEER WITH US

We’re looking for:

  • A Digital Skills volunteer to support refugee women to develop their ICT skills and to build their confidence in using the internet and digital applications.
  • A Co-Chair to co-lead our Board of Trustees, who is a strategically minded woman who has a strong commitment to women’s rights and refugee rights.

Interested? We’d love to hear from you!

We are so grateful for your ongoing kindness and solidarity – it makes a real difference.
