Solidarity and community, one scoop at a time!
Last weekend, we had the joy of taking part in Ben & Jerry’s Sundaes in the Park Festival, where we were invited to host a stall in the vibrant Social Mission Tent — a space dedicated to organisations working for social justice and refugee rights.
For us, the day was about more than simply sharing who we are. It was about creating connection — with festival-goers, with fellow organisations, and between the incredible refugee women in our network and the wider public.
Our stall offered fun and thoughtful ways for people to engage: visitors explored the challenges faced by women seeking safety in the UK through spinning our ‘Wheel of Misfortune’ or through our card game ‘Pair the Process’.
We also invited people to show their support for refugee women by writing messages on leaves to add to our Tree of Solidarity. The more messages we received, the more our tree bloomed and we were blown away by the hundreds of messages of compassion, solidarity and love. We are going to recreate the Tree in our community space to stand as a powerful reminder to the refugee women in our network that the UK is a place of welcome. Here are a few highlights:
Our team of volunteers — members of our network with lived experience of the asylum system — brought so much energy, passion, and warmth to the day. They shared stories, encouraged conversations, and helped create a space of meaningful connection. Many left feeling seen, heard, and uplifted by the kind and curious people they met, so thank you.
We’re also deeply grateful to Ben & Jerry’s for inviting us to take part, for supporting our work and for championing refugee rights. Their support helped us feel genuinely welcomed and ready to make the most of the day. And the free ice cream was a definite highlight!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared kind words, and showed up with open hearts. It was moving to witness how many people took a moment out of the music and fun to visit our stand, to learn more about the asylum system in the UK, and to engage in thoughtful conversations with us.
Days like this remind us that change doesn’t happen in isolation — it happens through connection, community, and shared action.
