Creative Writing for Change

Creative Writing for Change is a space for refugee and asylum-seeking women to explore their creativity and express their experiences, wishes, and memories through words.

It began as a short course for our Campaign Champions – our regular space for refugee women to develop, lead and take part in campaigning activities – who wanted to use writing as a tool for campaigning and advocating for refugee rights and women’s rights. The group named this project Words Without Borders.

Some chose to write in the style of poetry, for others through prose or short stories.

Please explore below to read, and listen to, some of their pieces.

The course helped me in thinking deeply before writing. Who am I writing to? What prompts my writing?"

Our Creative Arts projects are only possible because of our wonderful supporters!

£10 per month could support one woman to attend a creative arts course for a whole year.
