We’re looking for two new volunteers with experience of supporting adults to develop their reading and writing skills in English!

Our creative and educational activities are at the heart of everything that we do to empower our members and support their wellbeing. At Women for Refugee Women, we strive to create a safe space where women can build friendships, share solidarity and develop their skills and confidence. We couldn’t achieve any of this without our dedicated and brilliant volunteers.

We’re looking for new volunteers who can start as soon as possible and commit to a minimum of 6 months, near Old Street, London.

The role includes:

  • Running sessions with refugee and asylum-seeking women every Monday between 12-2pm (2 hours a week, during school term times)
  • Designing the curriculum and session plans
  • Ensuring you are led by the needs of the learners – who may vary from pre-entry to advanced levels
  • Sharing teaching responsibilities with your co-facilitator

About you:

  • Passionate about refugee rights and committed to supporting refugee and asylum-seeking women
  • Experience teaching literacy skills, or as a teaching assistant
  • The ideal candidate will have experience teaching literacy skills to people from a wide range of backgrounds, including refugees or people seeking asylum

To find out more about the roles and how to apply, please email our Grassroots Programmes Coordinator, Dina, at dina@refugeewomen.co.uk

For more information on what it’s like to volunteer with us, check out these blog posts from some of our brilliant volunteers: Katie, Sandra, Enez, Helen, and Liane.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Please note that due to the nature of our work we can only accept volunteer applications from women.
