Rainbow Sisters is a supportive, welcoming and confidential group open to lesbian, bisexual and trans women, and non-binary people seeking asylum.

The group comes together weekly and meets a real need for a safe space for LGBT+ women and individuals to feel supported to understand and celebrate their sexuality and who they are.

It is extremely difficult for LGBT+ people to get a fair hearing from the Home Office, with them often disbelieved or accused of lying. A member of Rainbow Sisters told us, “I wish the Home Office would not tell us we are lying. You’ve come to accept yourself for yourself, but then you are told you are lying about who you are. They do not know how much that hurts.”

Rainbow Sisters provides vital support and solidarity for LGBT+ women and individuals through the tedious and draining asylum process, providing hope, love and family.

Support the Rainbow Sisters and show your solidarity with LGBT+ women and non-binary individuals seeking safety in the UK.

Everyone deserves to live in safety as their true self.

Before joining Rainbow Sisters, I could hardly open my mouth to tell anyone about my sexuality. Now I will shout it from the rooftops. I have become free.

£10 can enable us to put credit on a woman’s phone.

The Rainbow Sisters meet weekly every Monday to share sisterhood and solidarity, providing a vital source of support for each other and a place to develop friendships and confidence.

£20 can provide an emergency grant to a woman in extreme hardship.

Our emergency grant can help a woman buy food or spend the night somewhere safe.

£70 can help a woman released from Yarl’s Wood detention centre to begin to rebuild her life in safety.

Many of our Rainbow Sisters have been held in immigration detention. They told us, “The experience of detention has left scars on many of us. It is inhumane and also unnecessary to lock up women who are seeking safety in this country. Many of us who were detained were later recognised as refugees, so it is clear that detention is unjust.”

£100 could provide one woman with therapeutic mental health support with a qualified therapist for one month.

Members of Rainbow Sisters told us, “we need support to speak openly about our sexuality or gender identity.”
